Injury dampens Dasaolu victory

James Dasaolu won the 60 metres at the British Athletics Grand Prix - but left Birmingham's National Indoor Arena in a wheelchair after appearing to injure himself in the race.

Dasaolu, who beat Jamaican double Olympic gold-medallist Nesta Carter, says his left leg tightened at around 40 metres.

It will be a concern for the 26-year-old, with the World Indoor Championships just three weeks away.

Dasaolu remains upbeat. He said: "I think it's just cramp, but I'll go and see the doctor."

Dasaolu won his heat in 6.47 seconds - the fastest time this year - before winning the final in 6.50 seconds.

Carter was 0.03 seconds back, while Kim Collins of Saint Kitts & Nevis was third, with Dasaolu's fellow Briton Dwain Chambers in fourth.

Elsewhere, Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba smashed the world record in the indoor two miles after recording a time of 9 minutes, 0.48 seconds.

Dibaba improved compatriot Meseret Defar's previous record of 9:06.28, set in Prague in 2009, by almost six seconds.

The 23-year-old has already set two new indoor world records this month, having done so in the 1,500 metres in Germany, and the 3,000 metres in Sweden.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, France's Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie broke Sergei Bubka's 21-year-old indoor pole vault record after clearing 6.16 metres - a centimetre higher than Bubka's 1993 effort.
