Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill has given birth to a "beautiful baby boy".

Ennis-Hill welcomed her first child into the world with husband Andy Hill on Thursday and posted on Twitter this morning to announce his name - Reggie Ennis-Hill.

Ennis-Hill will miss this year's Commonwealth Games, which get underway next Wednesday, but has assured fans that she will be back in training after the birth of her child and plans to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

"My plans for 2014 have been completely turned upside down," Ennis-Hill said when announcing her pregnancy in January. "But having had a couple of weeks to think about things from a career point of view I am 100% set on returning to full time athletics once our baby is born and go for a second gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 - that challenge really excites me.

"But in the short term I will make our baby a priority and enjoy the whole experience as much as possible."
