Jamieson: I've let down the supporters

Glasgow 2014 poster boy Michael Jamieson has confessed he feels like he let supporters down after his surprise 200 metres breaststroke defeat to fellow Scot Ross Murdoch.

"I felt a sense of responsibility coming into the Games, but it wasn't something I was scared of," Jamieson told BBC Sport.

"I really wanted to repay that faith and support of the people. It's only natural for your instant reaction to be like you felt you let people down.

"I didn't think he was capable of swimming 2:07. But he has done and it was a brilliant performance."

Jack Laugher and Chris Mears clinched gold in the men's synchronised 3m springboard final with fellow Englishmen Nick Robinson-Baker and Freddie Woodward finishing with bronze.

Laugher, who had already won gold in the 1m springboard and silver in the 3m springboard, said: "That was absolutely amazing. Chris and I just wanted to nail it like we have all year."

Nicola Adam's defeat of Mandy Bujold sets up a gold medal encounter with Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh.

The winner of Saturday's flyweight final will become the first ever female boxer to claim gold at the Commonwealth Games.

"Once I got my range and got my timing I started picking up the points," Adams told BBC Sport. "The final will be a cracking fight. The rumble in the jungle starts tomorrow. I'll be there. Make sure you are too!"

Lindsey Greechan and Katie Nixon agonisingly missed out on Jersey's first Commonwealth medal since Colin Mallett in Auckland 24 years ago - losing to Northern Ireland's Mandy Cunningham and Barbara Cameron in the women's bowls.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Greechan said: "We didn't deserve to lose that game at all. But they say you need a bit of luck and in the last few ends they had a bit of luck their way and it made the difference."

In the women's floor, Claudia Fragapane became the first Englishwoman to win four Commonwealth golds in a single Games for 84 years, finishing ahead of Lauren Mitchell.

Scotland's Daniel Purvis claimed gymnastics gold with a stunning final routine in the men's parallel bars, beating England's Nile Wilson for top spot.

England are through to the final of the women's hockey after defeating New Zealand in a close penalty shootout encounter. They face Australia on Saturday.

Finally, Scotland won their second lawn bowls gold after David Peacock, Neil Speirs, Paul Foster and Alex Marshall dismantled England 16-8
