Johnson-Thompson out of European Championships
Katarina Johnson-Thompson has been forced to pull out of European Championships in Zurich after failing to recover from the foot injury which ruled her out of the Commonwealth Games.
The 21 year old suffered a "stress reaction" in her foot during training for the Commonwealth Games and was advised by her medics to withdraw from the games in Glasgow as she risked long-term damage.
Johnson-Thompson was due to compete in the long jump in Switzerland after the European Championships begin on August 12 but instead will focus on returning for the latter part of the season.
A statement from British Athletics said: "In taking the longer term view rather than short term risk, it will enable her to commence a full winter training programme as originally planned."
Shara Proctor, who picked up a thigh injury when competing in the long jump final in Glasgow, has also withdrawn from Zurich, as has triple jumper Phillips Idowu.
But Mo Farah is scheduled to run in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres after pulling out of the Commonwealth Games due to illness.
