Rutherford forced to miss European Championships

British long jump record holder Greg Rutherford has been ruled out of the European Championships in Barcelona.

The 23-year-old, who set the record at last year's Euros, will not compete because of a troublesome foot complaint.

It is another substantial blow for Team GB ahead of the tournament, with Christine Ohuruogu already unable to compete due to injury.

Rutherford expects to recover in time for the London Grand Prix in August, which will be a crucial part of his warm-up for October's Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Mark Lewis-Francis and Marlon Devonish have been added to the 100 and 200 metre squads respectively.
