Turner breezes into semi-finals in Barcelona

Laura Turner cruised into the semi-finals of the women's 100m at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona.
Turner finished second in her heat behind Anna Gurova, clocking a time of 11.45seconds, some way off her personal best of 11.11 set earlier this season - the second fastest time in Europe this year.
"It was nice and comfortable, it was all about just qualifying for the semi-finals, so job done," she said. "The real stuff starts tomorrow."
Rhys Williams was the quickest of the three British qualifers for the 400m hurdles semi-final - alongside David Greene and Nathan Woodward - after he stormed to an impressive victory in his heat with a time of 49.35.
Hatti Dean booked her place in the final of the women's 3000 metre steeplechase with a bravely run race, finishing in a time of 9:46.43. Dean led for much of the contest, but was just pipped to the line by Poland's Wioletta Frankiewicz and Yuliya Zarudneva of Russia.
Ireland's Fionnuala Britton progressed as one of four fastest qualifiers, but it was heartbreak for Barbara Parker, who missed out after finishing tenth in her heat in a time of 10:20.99.
Michael Rimmer pulled out a devastating late burst to take his 800m heat in 1:49.99, while Kate Dennison reached the pole vault final.
In the women's 20km walk, Russia completed a clean sweep, with Olga Kaniskina heading home team-mates Anisya Kirdyapkina and Vera Sokolova. Britain's Jo Jackson finished 10th in a time of 1:33:33.
