British heptathlon star Jessica Ennis has admitted she may add the 100m hurdles to her schedule at the 2012 Olympics if the timetable allows.

Ennis is the world and European champion at the multi-event discipline and her goal is to add the Olympic crown to her haul on home soil. Speed events are Ennis' strong suit and she ran away with the 100m hurdles in last week's European Championships.

She will not be distracted from her goal of winning the heptathlon but is tempted by a crack at the specialist hurdlers.

"I think my sole focus is the heptathlon and that's what I'm 100% focused on but if there is an opportunity to run the hurdles and I qualify and run a good time and the timetable fits then of course I'd love to do it," Ennis said. "It's a home Olympics, it's a great opportunity and I love doing the hurdles."

Ennis has confirmed she will not be heading to the Commonwealth Games, in a bid to ensure she is in prime shape for the world championships in 2011.

"Me and my coach [Toni Minichiello] have sat down and decided I'm going to end the season now and just have a little bit of a break and freshen up and make sure that I'm really ready to compete well in the indoor season next year and at the World Championships," she said.

"We are happy with how things have gone and have made the decision to be sensible. It is a fine line and there are two important years ahead.

"I think the Commonwealths is fantastic, but it is a difficult time. If you are peaking in the summer and to then peak again in October is hard.

"I will have a break and then start back into full winter training. Hopefully I will do a full indoor season starting in January and then aim for the World Championships in the summer."
