Jo Pavey will take inspiration from Helen Clitheroe when she makes her marathon debut at Sunday's London Marathon.

Clitheroe claimed 3000m gold at the European Indoor Championships in March at the age of 37, and now Pavey, also 37, hopes for similar success.

"I watched Helen win gold in Paris and it inspired me loads," Pavey said in the Daily Mirror. "It shows people can still go out and perform at our age.

"I've known her for a long time and seen how hard she works. To run the best performance of her life after all this time gives me a lot of inspiration.

"Like me she lost her lottery funding but didn't let it get her down. For it to all finally pay off for her was brilliant."

Pavey, who competed in the 10,000m at the Beijing Olympics after moving up from the 1500m and 5000m events in 2004 will bid to achieve the Olympic qualifying time of two hours, 31 minutes.
