New Zealand are sweating the fitness of Cory Jane prior to next weekend's Grand Slam tour opener against England at Twickenham.

The Wellington winger was forced from the field after 52 minutes in the All Blacks' Bledisloe Cup loss to Australia in Hong Kong on Saturday after taking heavy blow to the left side of his chest wall.

Jane, who scored one of his side's three tries in a 26-24 defeat, received positive news as scans revealed the injury was soft tissue damage only, but the All Blacks medical staff intimated that he will struggle to line-up against Martin Johnson's men next Saturday.

Waikato wing Sitiveni Sivivatu was ruled out of the tour on Friday, leaving Joe Rokocoko, Isaia Toeava and Hosea Gear as options for Graham Henry should Jane fail to recover in time.
