Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok coach Jake White is set to be announced as the man to lead the Brumbies forward from next Super Rugby season, according to widespread reports.

Fittingly, White is expected to be named the new Brumbies boss by the end of the week in his current home town of Cape Town as the team prepares to face the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

White has been favourite to land the job since the sacking of Andy Friend just two weeks into the season and he is believed to have beaten three other candidates including current caretaker Tony Rea.

Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan indicated this week that the search for a replacement for Friend was coming to a close after a thorough search for the right coach to reestablish the ACT side as a major Super Rugby force.

White was highly-regarded in South African circles but relatively unknown when he took over the Springboks in 2004, and he oversaw a successful period that climaxed with the 2007 World Cup win in France.
