Former Australia captain Michael Lynagh has been admitted to hospital in Brisbane with what local media sources have said is a blood clot on his brain

Lynagh, who is 48, is understood to have been taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Monday evening after feeling unwell.

The hospital has confirmed to local media that Lynagh is a patient but has declined to make any further comment. His family has requested that no details be released.

Lynagh won the 1991 World Cup with Australia and had earned 72 caps by the time he called time on his international career in 1995. He was one of the first high-profile signings of the new professional era in England and he ended his career with Saracens in 1998.

Since retiring, Lynagh has pursued a variety of projects and has played a key role in both Sky Sports and ITV's rugby coverage in recent times.
