Ospreys considering Evans appeal

Ospreys are weighing up the case against Ian Evans before making a decision on whether to appeal against any possible ban - which at present could see him miss some or all of the upcoming Six Nations.

The Wales lock received a red card in the Heineken Cup on Friday evening after a stamping incident left Leinster's Mike McCarthy bloodied in Dublin, and could face a ban of between two and nine weeks if found guilty. If the offence is deemed more serious, a disciplinary panel can impose a suspension of up to 52 weeks.

With Evans likely to be out of Ospreys action for next two months regardless - either suspended or representing Wales - the South Wales Evening Post reports the club may decide against action, though the club did say in the aftermath of the Leinster game they were uncertain a red card was the correct decision.

"It was a big moment but, like a lot of observers, I'm not sure about it," assistant coach Gruff Rees said.

"Perhaps it was a bit reckless, but there were a lot of replays needed to make a decision, which suggests it wasn't that clear and obvious.

"When it gets slowed down to the nth degree, something worse can be made of it."
