Leicester Tigers have offered to make Manu Tuilagi one of theĀ "highest paid players in the world", according to director of rugby Richard Cockerill.

With his current deal set to run out next summer, Tuilagi has been in talks over an extension since September but is yet to put pen to paper.

He will be free to talk to other clubs from January, but Cockerill remains confident the England centre -- recovering from a groin injury that will keep him sidelined until 2016 -- will stay at Welford Road.

"We have put our best foot forward contractually. He wants to stay," Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester.

"We've made an offer that would put him up there with the highest-paid players in the world and we are waiting for that answer."
