It has emerged that Quade Cooper was attending Wallabies team-mate Peter Hynes' buck's party on Saturday night before he allegedly robbed a local Gold Coast residence, and that he underwent independent blood and urine tests after being released by police - possibly at the behest of the Australian Rugby Union.

In a further twist, reports in Australia indicate Cooper will use memory-loss as a defence against a charge of burglary after he was alleged caught taking laptops from the home of two foreign students after forcing entry into their Budds Beach home at around 4am on Sunday.

Cooper was arrested soon after, before being released on bail on Sunday afternoon. The Daily Telegraph reported that urine and blood samples were then taken, but not instigated by police.

The ARU and Queensland Rugby Union have declined to comment on the matter given Cooper is due to front court on Friday. Queensland legal firm Creevey Russell has issued a statement asking the public to assume Cooper is innocent until proven guilty.

''Given that Quade has been charged and the matter is before the court, we are limited in what we can say on Quade's behalf about the circumstances giving rise to the alleged offence,'' the statement read. ''Similarly, as much as he would like to, Quade is unable to make any comments to the media about the circumstances.

''However, we can say that the investigations that need to be undertaken in this matter are far from concluded and it would be unfair for anyone to pre-judge Quade or to speculate as to what in fact happened both prior to and at the time of the alleged offence. Quade, like everyone else, is entitled to have the circumstances fully investigated and, if the matter progresses to that point, is entitled to a fair trial.''
