Robbie Deans' hopes of bolstering the Wallabies' front-row for Saturday's second Test against England have been dealt a major blow with the news that Waratahs hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau will not be fit to play.

The powerful 24-year-old started for the Australian Barbarians as they lost to England's midweek side in Gosford on Tuesday but aggravated an ankle injury after being forced to serve as an emergency prop. Polota-Nau has missed the last four weeks of action but had provided a glimmer of hope by making the Barbarians side.

Deans will now likely turn to Reds hooker Saia Faingaa once again this weekend, with the youngster having been part of a front-row, along with props Ben Daley and Salesi Ma'afu, who conceded two penalty tries at the scrum in last weekend's first Test victory.

Wallabies forwards coach Jim Williams called on the inexperienced trio to fight fire with fire this weekend.

"It's just got to be ramped up again this week. The physicality of the England team, especially in their tight play was enormous," he told AAP. "The physicality that these guys play in the English Premiership and the Six Nations is just relentless and we need to make sure that we meet that battle head on."
