Australia fly-half Quade Cooper has vowed to salvage something from their Tri-Nations campaign despite his recent disappointment at missing out against the All Blacks.

The New Zealand-born Reds playmaker was forced to watch from the stands as his team-mates fell to back-to-back defeats against the All Blacks in recent weeks, having picked up a two-week ban for a dangerous tackle in their opening tournament fixture against the Springboks.

"It's been very hard to sit on the sidelines especially when you get beaten by your most fierce opposition," he told AAP. "It seems to be just one game that always gets away from me - the All Blacks."

The Wallabies sit second on the Tri-Nations ladder after their one win and Cooper is determined to end on a high - despite the All Blacks being practically home and hosed at the top on 19 points.

He has set his sights on ending Australia's drought on South Africa's high veldt, where they haven't tasted victory since 1963. The Wallabies' next outing is against the Springboks at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on August 28, with a rematch slated for Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium a week later.

"We've got two tough games in South Africa and we can look at them and think we haven't won in Pretoria in 60 years, or something ridiculous, and we overcome that and tick that box and then make a new challenge," he said. "We have to keep ticking the boxes.

"And what more can you look forward too - playing the current world champions on their home soil on their best parks."
