Western Force back Mark Bartholomeusz faces a race to be ready for the start of the Super Rugby season after rupturing ligaments in his left ankle.

The 33-year-old suffered the injury when he accidentally stepped on another player's foot during training last week and he has been ruled out for approximately 10 weeks.

The former Brumbies man will now undergo rehabilitation to be ready for the opening fixture of the restructured Super Rugby competition, when the Force meet the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on February 20.

Bartholomeusz, who also played for Ulster and made a short appearance for Australia in 2002, joined the Force at the start of last season after a stint with Padova in Italy.
