Queensland Reds have been dealt another injury blow following a stuttering start to the Super Rugby season, with former Wallaby Peter Hynes ruled out for at least a month with a knee problem.

The 28-year-old suffered a recurrence of the issue that ruled him out of the majority of Australia's Test season in 2010 in last weekend's heavy loss to the Waratahs in Sydney.

He has now been pencilled in for arthroscopic surgery next week, preceding rehabilitation period. The Reds have not placed a timeframe on his return.

The Queenslanders have also lost skipper James Horwill for this weekend's clash with the Brumbies in Canberra, although the second-rower is only expected to be sidelined for two weeks after suffering an ankle knock.
