The Queensland Reds have tied down promising openside Liam Gill until the end of the 2013 season.

The 19-year-old forward impressed in their title winning campaign in 2011 and despite interest from both Australian franchises and overseas, he has opted to continue his rugby education under the guidance of Reds boss Ewen McKenzie. He has represented Australia at Sevens level and was named in the U20 set up before being released back into the Reds squad for their final push last term.

And Gill is relishing the chance to develop as a player at the Reds. He said: "2011 has been a dream year for me and I'm really excited about next season and the challenges that lie ahead. I've got big aspirations for the future and I believe being at the Queensland Reds is the best place to achieve my goals.

McKenzie is pleased with Gill's performances to date and admits he is looking forward to seeing him develop as a player. "There's no denying Liam is one of the most highly touted young talents in rugby at the moment and we're confident the environment at the Reds is the best place for him to continue to maximise his playing potential," McKenzie said. "He has a big future ahead of him and to see him already offer so much on the playing field at such a young age is exciting for the team and our fans."
