Lachie Turner is set to miss the entire Super Rugby season after suffering a serious injury in the Waratahs' pre-season win over Samoa.

The Wallabies winger tore his hamstring from the bone in the clash at Tamworth and will undergo surgery on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old could be in contention for a return if New South Wales make the finals - which conclude in August - but he will certainly miss Australia's mid-season Tests against Wales and Scotland.

Turner's injury blighted a promising win for the 'Tahs, which included 13 tries for a final score of 83-5. Head coach Michael Foley reserved praise for South African recruit Sarel Pretorius at full-time and also his side's control in poor conditions.

"Sarel looked sharp and was a constant threat around the edges of the ruck," he said. "We moved the ball around well at times, I was impressed by how well we adjusted to the conditions.

"Both packs had plenty to do, tidying up and getting us going forward.  Our outside backs didn't get the ball in hand as much as we would have liked but their work rate in working back for the kick chase and in loose play was exceptional."
