The Rebels secured a 30-23 victory over the Force in the opening Super Rugby clash of the season in Melbourne. The Rebels trailed 11-0 midway through the opening half at AAMI Park but three tries and 15 points from the boot of fullback James O'Connor helped the home team to victory. The Force, who scored tries through Alfi Mafi (2) and Richard Brown, were rocked in the second half when they briefly went down to 13 men following yellow cards to Chris Alcock and Alby Mathewson. During that time Richard Kingi ran in the Rebels' third try, following efforts from forwards Ged Robinson and Hugh Pyle, and the hosts went on to secure the victory. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
