Queensland Reds and Australia centre Anthony Fainga'a expects to be sidelined for up to six months after undergoing shoulder surgery in Brisbane.

Fainga'a, 26, was named last week in Australia's extended 40-man training squad, but the reconstruction to his right shoulder will see him miss both The Rugby Championship and the Spring Tour. The six-month rehabilitation process will see Fainga'a target a return to the playing field for the beginning of the 2014 Super Rugby season.

He will not be replaced in the extended Wallabies training squad, which will assemble for a five-day camp in Sydney on Monday.

Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie will announce his final squad of up to 30 players at the conclusion of the training camp on Friday, August 9.
