Former Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri could be in line for a sensational return to rugby union as he ponders his next move.

Tuqiri is currently running out for NRL side the West Tigers but he has found his playing time at a premium after struggling with an arm injury over the last two years. He has turned out for the Tigers just 48 times since his debut in 2010 and despite the Tigers' declaration that he "is a genuine rugby league superstar", reports suggest he is unlikely to be awarded a new contract at the end of the NRL season.

This could pave the way for Tuqiri to switch back to union where he has enjoyed plenty of success - he would be following in the footsteps of his Tigers team-mate Benji Marshall who will move to the Blues at the end of the NRL season. In total, Tuqiri made 67 appearances for the Wallabies and started the 2003 World Cup final.

He also enjoyed a stint in the Premiership with Leicester Tigers and Tuqiri could yet make a return to northern hemisphere rugby if he chooses to swap the 13-man code for union.

"I am going alright and if it's not here at the Tigers then it will probably have to be somewhere else," Tuqiri said. "I am sifting through a few things at the moment and hopefully have something for everyone in the next couple of weeks. There are a few things there, I will just have to weigh them up with the family and take it from there.

"(Rugby's) an option as well, having some experience in it and we'll just see how the next few weeks pan out. I have struggled in the past with the weight of expectation around contract-time but I am older now and I can just go out there and enjoy myself.

"I have put two games together now and hopefully I can see out the season. It's been a tough two years with injuries but hopefully I am over all that bad luck."
