Leinster have confirmed the signing of 67-cap Wallaby Lote Tuqiri on a short-term deal.

Tuqiri turned out in rugby league from 1999 through to 2002 and then joined the Waratahs. He established a reputation as one of Super Rugby's most lethal finishers and won a place in the Wallabies squad for the 2003 World Cup.

He went on to play for the Leicester Tigers in 2009 and then returned to rugby league in 2010. But with his contract up at the Wests Tigers, Leinster acted quickly to bolster their resources in the backs and have drafted in Tuqiri.

"We are delighted to welcome a player of Lote's calibre and his enthusiasm to make a positive impression at Leinster is exciting for both his new team-mates and supporters alike," Leinster coach Matt O'Connor said. "A consummate professional, Lote has an enormous wealth of experience in the game and we believe that he will play an important role in the squad over the coming weeks."
