All Blacks' Ross Brown dies, aged 79

Taranaki and New Zealand rugby legend Ross Brown has passed away, aged 79.

Brown played 25 matches for the All Blacks at fly-half and inside centre, including 16 Tests, after making his debut against Australia in Auckland in September 1955. He also finished his Test career against Australia, in Brisbane in May 1962.

He played for New Zealand in their first series win against South Africa, in 1956, and also in two victories over the British Lions in 1959.

Brown played 144 matches for Taranaki, and he captained the Amber and Blacks during their Ranfurly Shield era from 1963 to 1965.

Brown died at a rest home in New Plymouth after suffering from poor health in recent years.
