Ewen McKenzie is content with Australia's progress as they bid to win the Bledisloe Cup for the first time since 2012, saying the Wallabies are showing great intent in their way of playing.

McKenzie said "we can definitely take confidence" from the manner in which his team defeated France 39-13 in the third Test at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, noting in particular that his bench had made more of an impression than in Brisbane and Melbourne.

"We didn't make the most of every opportunity, but I was pleased with the intent across the game," McKenzie said of the manner in which his team had played - strong in the set-piece, clinical at the breakdown, heavy in defence and effective in attack.

"The intention was very good … we have a method of play but within that the framework allows players to express themselves.

"I think it was certainly better in terms of the attack side of it, but probably over-enthusiastic today a little bit … we dominated possession, territory and opportunity. We probably didn't make the most of every opportunity but I was very happy about the intent."

Wallabies captain Michael Hooper said the team still had "scrappy areas" to address, pointing to the protection of the halfback, but he was happy that "we took out opportunities more this week, we built nice pressure early and got points on the board".

Looking forward to the Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship campaign, McKenzie said "we are averaging four tries a game at the moment so that's good and we've had some wins".

"The best thing we can do in terms of All Blacks is come through this series with a style of game to be confident about, and I flagged if we can get three wins in a row that's the best possible thing we can do in terms of taking confidence," McKenzie said.

"Now we'll obviously have to look at the All Blacks technically, tactically and obviously see what players we have available coming into the Super Rugby competition."
