Gregan names Jones, McMahon in his Wallabies squad

Melbourne Rebels duo Luke Jones and Sean McMahon are hugely unlucky to have been omitted from Michael Cheika's initial Rugby Championship squad, former Wallabies scrum-half George Gregan believes.

The Rugby World Cup 2003 winner, now an HSBC Rugby Ambassador, said in an exclusive video for ESPN that he would have named Jones in the second-row and McMahon in the back-row alongside incumbent openside flanker Michael Hooper and "consistent and immense" No.8 Ben McCalman.

McMahon played "really well" for the Rebels as the Melbourne franchise produced their best Super Rugby season to date, Gregan says. David Pocock, too, enjoyed a monumental season and must be in consideration for either berth on the side of the scrum.

The Brumbies dominate Gregan's selection, with Matt Toomua featuring alongside Christian Leali'ifano and Tevita Kuridrani in the midfield. Gregan would also select the "electric" Henry Speight on the right wing as soon as the flyer completes his five-week suspension for a dangerous tackle on Juan de Jongh because he can "create something out of nothing".

Gregan thinks also that injury robbed Brumbies lock Sam Carter of a certain berth in the second-row.
