September 5, 2015

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the USA v Australia from Soldier Field, Chicago. Sam Bruce in the chair at the stadium on a beautiful evening in the Windy City. The crowd is building slowly but we're still 45 minutes away from kick-off. The Eagles have started their warm-up while just a couple of the Wallabies are out on the pitch so far.

Wallabies are now out on the field; big Taqele Naiyaravoro, who will make his debut from the bench, is hoisting a few high balls with Kurtley Beale. Still 25 minutes from kick-off but the crowd hasn't really improved. Hoping for a late rush!

Both teams leaving the field having completed their warm-ups; no signs of complacency within the Wallabies - they were going through their preparations with vigour. Stick with us, kick-off is now just a few minutes away.

Teams have returned to the field, walking onto the pitch together ahead of the anthems. Crowd has improved a little but it's not going to get beyond 20,000 from the looks of things.

1st minute: We're underway at Soldier Field as AJ MacGinty kicks deep to Wallabies outside centre Hnery Speight, the Australians immediately try to shift the ball but Joe Tomane knocks-on.

2nd minute: The Wallabies produce a big shove at the scrum, allowing Nick Phipps to pressure his opposite Mike Petri. The Aussie scrum-half knocks the ball down, giving the Eagles another scrum. Penalty Australia. A second massive shunt from the Wallabies brings a penalty from Jaco Peyper. The Aussies kick for touch and will attack from 40 metres out.

4th minute: Penalty Australia. The Wallabies move through a few phases before Peyper comes back and awards a penalty to the visitors for off-side. They again kick for touch but will attack from just 10 metres out this time.

5th minute: Penalty Australia. The Eagles give away yet another penalty, this time at the lineout; the Wallabies had attempted to go wide but Bernard Foley was hammered by Eagles centre Seamus Kelly.

6th minute: Yellow card. Eagles lock Greg Peterson is sent to the sin-bin for repeated team infringements. The Wallabies immediately call for the scrum and the visitors will be pretty tough to stop from here.

8th minute: Try time Australia. Wallabies fly-half Bernard Foley goes in straight under the posts after a dominant scrum from his forwards. The ball was a little sloppy at the back but the fly-half simply stepped off his left foot after receiving the pass from Nick Phipps to cross with ease. 7-0 Australia.

10th minute: The Eagles again go long from the kick-off with the Wallabies keen to move the ball wide from the first ruck. A few phases later Nick Phipps opts for the box-kick but hooks it badly and kicks out on the full.

12th minute: The Eagles first real attacking opportunity amounts to little as they opt for a high ball just a couple of phases after the lineout.. They soon knock-on, giving the Wallabies a scrum which they win safely and kick downfield through centre Matt Giteau. The Eagles call a mark and clear to touch back up towards halfway.

15th minute: Try time Australia. Wallabies half-back Nick Phipps goes over for the visitors after some fine support play from James Slipper and Wycliff Palu. The Eagles went long from a 22 restart which was field by Bernard Foley; the fly-half beating the first defender and then setting the play in motion as Slipper and Palu backed up to provide the final 20-metre run to the line for Phipps. Foley adds the extras to give the Wallabies a 14-0 lead.

18th minute: The Eagles enjoy their brightest passage of play for the match and eventually draw a penalty from off-side. The hosts moved the ball from side to side and made a couple half-breaks with fly-half AJ MacGinty almost moving clear. He'll line up a shot at three points from just inside the 10-metre line.

20th minute: MacGinty's attempt is good and the Eagles are on the board. Australia 14-3.

23rd minute: The Eagles swoop on a loose ball and make a nice run on the short side through captain Chris Wyles. They try to move the ball for a few phases but eventually opt for the box-kick which is easily fielded by Matt Giteau who calls for the mark.

25th minute: Thretton Palamo collects Matt Giteau in a huge hit. The Eagles defence continues to hold strong in the face of some dangerous Wallabies attack but the home side are eventually able to clear their line up towards halfway.

27th minute: Penalty Australia. The Eagles are pinged for off-side after Ben McCalman knocks on for the visitors. The Wallabies kick to the corner and opt for the lineout but the play breaks down when Matt Giteau spills the ball.

29th minute: A loose ball is toed through by the Eagles and skipper Chris Wyles charges up field to tackle Wallabies winger Joe Tomane into touch.

31st minute: Try time USA. The Eagles are in through scrum-half Mike Petri. After a topsy-turvy passage of play with a couple of turnover the Eagles eventually get the ball wide towinger Takudza Ngwenya. The winger famous for burning Springboks flyer Bryan Habana at the 2007 RWC is brought down short but pops the ball up for Petri for a fine try. AJ MacGinty adds the extras to make the score just 14-10 to Australia.

34th minute: An extended period of phase play from the Australians comes to an end with yet another loose ball, giving the Eagles a scrum right on halfway. The hosts have worked their way back into this match while the Aussie look to be trying to go wide too early.

37th minute: The Eagles' defence is proving resolute at the moment with the Wallabies unable to break through despite the best efforts of Kurtley Beale and others. They are eventually forced to kick but Beale puts too much on it and the ball flies out on the full. The Eagles will have an attacking lineout from around 35 metres out just a couple of minutes out from half-time.

39th minute: Scrum Australia. The Eagles can't move their maul from the lineout and are unable to clear the ball. A wasted opportunity.

40th minute That's half-time at Soldier Field as yet another Wallabies sequence breaks down with a dropped ball. The visitors could well be in for a hefty serve from coach Michael Cheika while his Eagles counterpart will be thrilled with the way his side worked their way back into the match across the second 20. 14-10 Australia at the break.

2nd half

41st minute: We're back underway at Soldier Field as Bernard Foley kicks inside the Eagles' 22. The ball is athletically fielded by Blaine Scully before the hosts look to clear through a Mike Petri box-kick. The Eagles soon win a penalty after Wycliff Palu knocks on and then plays the ball on the ground.

44th minute: Penalty USA. The Wallabies are pinged for off-side at the lineout in another error that won't please coach Michael Cheika. The hosts will attack from just 10 metres out following an excellent kick to touch by AJ MacGinty.

45th minute: A knock-on from the Eagles sees them blow the golden opportunity from the lineout. That error is compounded by a penalty to the Wallabies; the Eagles once again under pressure at the scrum.

47th minute Penalty Australia. The Wallabies are awarded a penalty after the Eagles are adjudged to be off-side. The visitors spurn the chance at three points and kick for the line.

49th minute: Try time Australia. The Wallabies go in through youngster Sean McMahon. The back-rower attached himself to the back of a powerful rolling maul from a five-metre lineout and the drive proved too strong to stop. Bernard Foley adds the extras to take the Wallabies out to a 21-10 lead.

51st minute: A reasonably benign box-kick from replacement scrum-half Will Genia actually works in favour of the Wallabies as Chris Wyles calls for the mark. The Eagles skipper passes back to AJ MacGinty for the clearance but he fails to make too much ground. The Wallabies hand the ball straight back to the hosts however as the lineout is not straight.

53rd minute Penalty Australia. The Eagles are pinged for entering the tackle through the side, giving the Wallabies the chance to kick inside their hosts' 22.

55th minute: Try time Australia. The Wallabies go in through replacement lock Dean Mumm, the veteran second-rower charging over from close range and extending the arm to get the ball down. The Wallabies had punched a couple of phases up in tight before and Mumm capitalised. Bernard Foley adds the extras to give the Wallabies some breathing space at 28-10.

58th minute: The Eagles are forced to kick after a succession of phases that ask little of the Wallabies defence. The hosts seem to be more prepared to work through the middle of the paddock in the second half, and will look to continue that play with a lineout from just inside the Eagles' half.

59th minute: Penalty USA. The Wallabies are pinged for off-side on this occasion with referee Jaco Peyper coming back for the call following a thumping tackle from Sean McMahon. The Eagles kick deep into the Wallabies territory and will attack from a lineout.

60th minute: Penalty Australia. The Eagles fail to make the most of the opportunity with the Wallabies winning a penalty at the breakdown for holding on. They clear up to halfway.

62nd minute: The two sides come together for a bit of push and shove, but no-one is silly enough to take the scuffle any further. After things have settled down, referee Peyper awards a scrum to the USA for accidental off-side.

65th minute: Penalty Australia. The Eagles concede another penalty at scrum-time. They had given up their attacking chance a few moments earlier when a promising short-side move came to an end via a dropped ball.

66th minute: Scrum Australia. The Wallabies get a little lucky as they spill the ball only for the Eagles to make a mistake themselves when trying to move the ball.

68th minute: The Eagles go within metres of scoring after skipper Chris Wyles swoops on a loose pass and charges downfield. The play breaks down but the Eagles are awarded a penalty a few phases later.

70th minute: Try time Australia. The Eagles immediately turn the ball over from the lineout and the Wallabies charge downfield through Henry Speight. The outside-centre then found Joe Tomane who then got the ball to Sean McMahon; the back-rower setting Kurtley Beale on his way to the corner and the full-back had too much pace for the cover defence. Bernard Foley adds the extras for a 35-10 lead.

72nd minute: A promising Wallabies attack comes to an end when Foley fails to hit replacement Taqele Naiyaravoro with a cut-out pass. Putting the ball through the hands appeared to be the smarter option but the fly-half chose to try and hit his winger instead.

74th minute: Try Australia. The Wallabies go in again, this time through replacement Quade Cooper. A nice short-side move saw Joe Tomane hit a flat pass and the winger then promoted the ball to Cooper; the Queenslander getting the ball down despite the best efforts of two cover defenders. Foley keeps his perfect record for the evening to take the Wallabies out to a 42-10 lead.

76th minute: Penalty USA. The hosts do well to win the ball from the restart before winning a penalty a few phases later. It is then reversed however, the Wallabies instead getting the call for an illegal play at the breakdown. The visitors kick to touch up near halfway.

78th minute: Try Australia. Winger Taqele Naiyaravoro goes over for a try on debut; the winger merely catching the pass on the end of the Wallabies backline. He'll remember that one while the Wallabies have now run up the score many thought they would. Foley missed his first shot of the night but it's the all the Wallabies in this one, they lead 47-10 in the shadows of full-time.

80th minute: The Wallabies will have the last say in this one as the Eagles' restart goes out on the full. The visitors opt for a scrum back on halfway.

82nd minute That's full-time at Soldier Field - the Wallabies triumphing 47-10 in front of 23,212 fans.
