Australia have got their Olympic qualification off to a flying start after they finished day one of the World Sevens Oceania Olympic Qualification tournament unbeaten with three convincing wins to top Pool A.

The Thunderbolts conceded just seven points in their three matches, with youngster Henry Hutchison impressing in his first tour for the Australian Sevens side, scoring a double in the side's opening match.

Starting strong, the Australians easily swept aside Nauru 62-0 with Australia posting 10 tries. They continued their winning ways, scoring six tries to one to defeat the Cook Islands 48-7.

In their final match of the day, Australia were at their best to make easy work of Tonga, scoring eight unanswered tries, with captain Ed Jenkins crossing the whitewash after just 20 seconds, to win 49-0 and set up a quarter final match up with American Samoa.

Main qualifying rivals Samoa also made it through the opening day unbeaten with hammering 48-0 win over the Solomon Islands, 50-0 victory of American Samoa and conceded just seven points in their 41-7 win over Papua New Guinea, setting up a quarter final berth against Nauru.

The two unbeaten sides are expected to face off in the final with the winner securing a spot at next year's Rio Olympics.
