Force name South African Peter Grant in first start for side

Former Springboks back Peter Grant will have his first start for the Western Force in their pre-season rugby trial against the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Grant, 31, who won five caps off the bench for South Africa in 2007-08 will start at five-eighth against the 2015 Super Rugby losing grand finalists at Gosford on the the NSW Central Coast.

The Force named what could be their strongest side for their opening trial match, with Pek Cowan, Nathan Charles, Chris Alcock and Ian Prior all starting while they also padded the bench with the likes of Jono Lance and Kane Koteka. 

With regular captain Matt Hodgson rested, fellow Wallaby forward Pek Cowan will lead the Perth-based franchise.
