March 3, 2000

The Australian Rugby Union have agrred to finance a new competition that they hope will help bridge the gap between club and Super 12 rugby.

With the intent of securing their place as the world's best the ARU will provide the clubs involved with funding for full time coaches and player development.

The decision has been welcomed by Queensland coach John Connolly who said, "We definitely need some form of national competition like that to keep new players coming through."
