Wallaby captain John Eales will be out of rugby for up to six weeks after tests here Monday confirmed he had suffered a fractured eye socket.

Eales was injured in a head clash with Queensland Reds teammate Sean Hardman in last Saturday's 43-25 Super 12 loss to Wellington in New Zealand.

"There is a fracture in the eye socket and at this stage it'll be four to six weeks," Eales said after a MRI scan Monday.

"It's very disappointing because last year I was injured and missed the whole Super 12 season and I'll miss a decent chunk of it this year."

Queensland have a bye next weekend, but then play five games in a row at home.

Despite the loss of Eales, Queensland hope to have Wallaby quartet Ben Tune, Matt Cobain, Tim Horan, Michael Foley fit for the Saturday week Super 12 match against Canterbury Crusaders.
