ACT Brumbies five-eighth Rod Kafer, one of the players involved in the unfortunate incidents in Cape Town at the weekend said they were victims of a massive beat-up.

Speaking on ABC Radio, Kafer said allegations of disturbances at a restaurant were made up, but he did admit the players had caused some damage to a taxi. Kafer said the players reacted when the driver ignored their requests to change the meter, but all disagreements were settled after they were driven to the Sea Point police station.

"We attempted to negotiate a fare with the taxi driver, he refused to give us a price on what it would cost to take us back to our hotel," Kafer said. "There was already an amount on the meter which was grossly exaggerated and we then said we would like him to start the meter again ... as it was basically more than the whole fare home."

"On finding out who we were the next morning, (the driver) basically went to the paper and told them who we were and made up a story about us. There were no charges laid, no nothing with the police and then the story has just been embellished since then."
