Burke will miss Tri-Nations opener

Australia's rugby union selectors have ruled out any chance of Matthew Burke making his comeback in Saturday's Tri-Nations match against New Zealand.

The Wallaby fullback has not played for Australia since last year's World Cup final victory over France after injuring himself during the Super 12 provincial series.

Burke was hoping to be ready for Saturday's match at Sydney's Olympic Stadium but was told he would have to wait at least two more weeks after failing a fitness test on Tuesday.

Australia are expected to make at least two changes to the side that beat South Africa 44-23 in Melbourne last weekend.

Although the Wallabies posted a record total against the Springboks and equalled their longest winning streak of 10 matches, coach Rod Macqueen was far from happy with the display.

He said he was considering bringing centre Jason Little and number eight Toutai Kefu into the starting side after both scored tries as replacements.

The All Blacks, keen to make amends for last year's disappointing World Cup campaign, are also expected to make changes to the side which beat Scotland last month.

Both countries will name their teams on Wednesday.

South African centre Japie Mulder has been sent home after injuring himself in Saturday's loss to Australia.

Mulder is expected to be out of action for a month after hurting his arm and shoulder.
