Welsh Cup secures new Sponsor
August 15, 2000

The WRU have struck a deal with the Principality Building Society to sponsor the Welsh cup for the next three seasons.

The deal, which gives the competition a sponsor for the first time since SWALEC pulled out two years ago will see the competition renamed the Principality Cup.

John Mitchell the Principality's Chief Executive has clear views on how the undisclosed payment to the WRU should be used. "What we do want is for the money to be ploughed back into the community, into youth team rugby and the grassroots of the game. If we have good young players in the future then we will be able to beat the best in the world," he said.

"It is a good deal for us and a good deal for the Welsh Rugby Union, it is one of the best ways for us to get the name of The Principality across," Mr Mitchell added.

The deal is believed to be worth £100,000 a year.
