Saint-Andre welcomes Little to the fold

Gloucester coach Philippe Saint-Andre believes that Wallaby import Jason Little can put some life back into their Premiership campaign.

The 75-cap Wallaby has arrived at Kingsholm on a two-year contract and expects to have recovered from minor surgery to his left knee and be playing again within a month.

Little joins long-time Australian centre partner Tim Horan and brother-in-law David Wilson, who have joined Saracens and Harlequins respectively, in the Zurich Premiership.

"Playing 11 years in Australia is a long time. I needed a change and I am very excited about playing here," said Little.

"I have some very good friends over here and I am looking forward to getting fit and playing again."

Little also revealed that the presence of All Black legend Ian Jones as captain of Gloucester was instrumental in his decision to start a new life in England with wife Bridget.

"I have played against Ian many times. I have the utmost respect for him and I spoke to him before coming over here.

"Part of the appeal of playing in the Northern Hemisphere is that you have a whole range of internationals and I can learn from Philippe and Ian and hopefully they can learn something from me."

Little won a World Cup in 1991 and 1999 and finished his Test career by lifting the Tri-Nations Trophy on his 30th birthday last month.

Saint-Andre, whose side lie third from bottom of the Premiership, has no doubt that Little will have a huge impact even before he starts playing.

He said: "Jason is a world-class player but he is also a winner and has done so all over the world. I have a lot of young backs who will learn from him and I am sure the wingers will score a lot of tries."

Little, who plans to study as well as play rugby, will be a spectator when Harlequins and Wilson come to Kingsholm on Saturday.

"Everyone knows how David Wilson plays and by the reports he had a good debut for Harlequins last week - but I'll be giving Gloucester as much advice about him as I can," he added.
