EP open their Super 14 bid
July 30, 2001

The Eastern Province Rugby Union will start their bid on Tuesday to host the fifth South African team in the proposed Super 14.

Members of the EP union will meet with South African Rugby Football Union (Sarfu) officials to present their case. But they face strong opposition from their Free State counterparts, who remain favourites to win the honour.

However, EP chief executive Phillip Joseph says they will not give up the fight. "We are preparing ourselves to influence their (Sarfu) decision," he told Beeld. "That's why we called all involved to meet on Tuesday and plan an assault that will make us the winners."
