Roff lands in France

Wallabies winger Joe Roff touched down in France on Tuesday to begin his one-year contract with Biarritz.

The 25-year-old, who is still likely to be named in the Wallabies squad to tour Canada and Europe, were met by club president Marcel Martin, captain Jean-Michel Gonzalez, coach Patrice Lagisquet and players Philippe Bernat-Salles and Jack Isaac.

Wallaby coach Eddie Jones is keen for Roff to join them on the overseas tour, despite regulations that state players plying their trade outside the country can't be selected.

"The International Rugby Board's directive is that Biarritz must free him to play," he told the Australian media. "If he is the best left winger Australia has, he'll be selected."

The 67-Test veteran was presented with the Biarritz No 11 shirt at a reception in a town centre hotel, but declined to comment on his chances of joining the Wallabies on tour.

"I'm a bit tired by the long journey but I'm fit. I came to play rugby and I want to play as soon as possible," he said.
