Union still waiting on Sailor
September 27, 2001

The timing of Wendell Sailor's union debut remains unknown after Queensland delayed naming the side for Saturday's clash against the Waratahs at Ballymore.

The QRU was expected to announce the side on Thursday, with most interest surrounding the possible inclusion of Sailor.

The Australian winger's rugby league commitments ended last Sunday when the Brisbane Broncos lost the preliminary final to the Eels. He is keen to make a quick switch to his new code.

Queensland coach Mark McBain has been concerned about rushing Sailor, despite the fact that officials would welcome his crowd drawing presence for what would otherwise be an uninspiring interstate match.

The game is part of Centenary of Federation celebrations, but will not feature several Wallabies including Daniel Herbert and Michael Foley. However, Toutai Kefu and brother Steve, recently selected in the Wallaby squad for the upcoming tour, Elton Flatley and Chris Latham are expected to play.

Recently retired Wallabies skipper John Eales will attend the game and receive a special presentation from the Queensland Rugby Union.
