Wallabies select Tune
October 25, 2001

Ben Tune has been named in the Australian team to play the opening match of its European tour against the English National Divisions as he makes his return from injury.

Tune hasn't played at all for the Wallabies since leaving the field injured against South Africa in August of 2000, and has made just three appearances since Australia won the World Cup in France in 1999.

"The first couple of games are going to be pretty much selection trials leading into the England game," the Queenslander said earlier this week. "Hopefully I might get one or two of those games and get a bit of ball and hopefully I can do a bit to impress."

The visitors will play a historic first Test against Spain in Madrid next week, before matches against England, France and Wales on consecutive weekends, and loosehead prop Bill Young has also been included in this weekend's team.

Young lost his place to Nick Stiles when the knee injury he sustained in the Super 12 final kept him out of the entire domestic Test season.

Coach Eddie Jones also named Phil Waugh on the openside flank, while at the same time resting George Smith, and Elton Flatley will play inside centre ahead of Nathan Grey.

The match will also be halfback George Gregan's first match in charge after inheriting the captaincy from the recently retired John Eales, and the team also includes his deputies Daniel Herbert and David Giffin.
