Dwyer ready for Stormers

Waratahs coach Bob Dwyer expects the Stormers to be hell-bent on revenge when they meet at Newlands on Saturday.

The Stormers, then coached by Alan Solomons, were completely outclassed in Sydney last year and received a 35-7 drubbing. But Dwyer, a World Cup winning-coach, expects that defeat to serve as extra motivation for the home side.

"I think it certainly will be extra motivation. From our point of view we are aware of the fact that form doesn't transfer from one year to another. Just compare the Sharks of last year to the team of the previous year and also look at the Blues at the moment.

"They gave the Reds a massive hiding in the warm-up games, while they also beat the Waratahs and they were awesome against the Hurricanes last week. That's why we know form doesn't transfer from one season to another. We just want to prove that we are a better side than last year."

He said they want to put up a good performance and get a good result at Newlands on Saturday. "Our preparation went pretty well, but you never know until the day of the event. We've done what we've thought was necessary and now we'll just have to wait and see whether it's been good enough."

Dwyer regards the Stormers' victory over the Sharks in Durban last Friday as "pretty amazing. I imagine they would have gone into that game as the rank underdogs. No one else managed to beat the Sharks in Durban last year and the Stormers missed quite a number of players people assume would be first-choice players.

"So it was a great start for them and they got the result in that game to tackle us with a fair amount of confidence at home. It sure will be an interesting game."

Dwyer said he knows coming to Newlands is never an easy task. "We did our preparation and will try to put up a good performance. If it's good enough that's great, if it's not then there is not much else we can do about it, I guess."
