Gregan expects clean contest

Brumbies captain George Gregan has rejected suggestions that this week's Super 12 final rematch at Canberra Stadium will be marred by animosity.

The Sharks were a disappointed team after being beaten 36-6 in the final, with skipper Mark Andrews claiming on the team's return to Durban that the local crowd's arrogance had offended his team.

But after leading his team to its second successive win in the new season, a 64-16 walloping of the Cats last weekend, Gregan said the match won't take on any extra importance just because it is the first time the two teams meet after the final.

"It's just another match," Gregan told AAP. "It was the final and I guess it's no different to when we lost to the Crusaders the year before and then played them first game last year.

"There's a little bit more motivation for the team to make up for the loss and try and turn it around, and they'll probably have that frame of mind a bit, but that's to be expected."

Gregan (pictured) is expecting a tougher battle this time around as well with new Springboks coach Rudolf Straeuli in charge, revealing that Brumbies coach David Nucifora had warned the team against complacency.

Adding to the danger the Sharks pose is the fact they were belted 45-5 by the Highlanders last weekend in Dunedin, with the Brumbies replacing injured fullback Andrew Walker (knee) with winger Damian McInally, and naming Mark Bartholomeusz at fullback.

McInally played his first game for the Brumbies three years ago against the Stormers but has played just eight matches in total because of a succession of injuries, and says he is delighted to make his comeback against the Sharks.

"They're a pretty sharp outfit though they got touched up last week," he said. "I don't think the score showed the real class of the game. They're a big pack, just like last week."

Brumbies newcomer Scott Barton will take McInally's place on the bench.
