West appeal dismissed
March 27, 2002

A SANZAR tribunal has dismissed an appeal by Waratahs' lock Jono West against a three week suspension handed down for a stamping offence committed during last Saturday's Vodafone Super 12 clash between the HSBC Waratahs and the Sharks in Sydney.

On Monday, West was suspended for three weeks, up to and including the 15th of April 2002.

During this time he will miss two Super 12 matches for the HSBC Waratahs against the Blues and the Highlanders.

Although the tribunal agreed that West made accidental contact with the head of Sharks prop Deon Carstens, it did not overturn the original sentence.

"I'm obviously disappointed with the result, as I would never intentionally commit such an act," said West.

"I thought Tony Dempsey presented our case extremely well but I respect the judgement that's been made."
