Hurricanes v Reds - Preview
March 28, 2002

This Saturday's clash between the Hurricanes and the Reds will see the long-awaited match-up between Jonah Lomu and Wendell Sailor.

HEAD TO HEAD: Hurricanes 2 Reds 4
COVERAGE: Fox Sports
LAST TIME: Reds 27-18 - Brisbane

WALKING WOUNDED
The big worry for the Hurricanes is openside flanker Kupu Vanisi with a lower back problem. No.8 Jerry Collins had an X-ray on his left wrist and was cleared of any serious injury. Fullback Christian Cullen also sat out some of training this week to rest a sore neck, and lock Paul Tito also has a hamstring problem. Perhaps the biggest dilemma for coach Graham Mourie is whether to retain Daryl Lilley on the wing or name the larger Shannon Paku to combat the Reds duo of Ben Tune and Wendell Sailor.
Just one change for the Reds with former Cambridge and reserve Brumbies hooker Tom Murphy getting the nod ahead of Sean Hardman.

FORM
The Reds are coming off a bye while the Hurricanes made it successive wins with a 30-21 win against the Cats.

WHO'S HOT
Hurricanes centre Tana Umaga said he was sick of Super 12 at the start of the season, but you wouldn't have guessed it watching him run around in recent weeks. It was Vintage Umaga against the Cats - punishing defence and committed running.
Gordon Slater joins Tama Umaga, Christian Cullen and Dion Waller to play 50 Super games.

WHO'S NOT
Aussie referee Wayne Erickson is not very popular in Wellington so you can imagine the crowd's delight last week when he got caught in the play and eventually re-emerged from the bottom of a ruck.

KEY MATCH-UPS
Jonah Lomu v Wendell Sailor - they have been talking about this one ever since the first rumours emerged that Sailor was coming over to union. They are unlikely to be marking each other but you can bet they will run into each other at some point. It's round six and two big men look pretty naked without a try to their names.

WE THINK
A win to the Hurricanes in this one would really set them up nicely for a shot at the semi-finals over the last half of the preliminary round. However, the Reds probably need this one slightly more than the Hurricanes as they could fall two wins outside the four if they lose. The Reds will be fresh after a bye, while the Hurricanes are chasing three wins in a row. Reds by 7.
