Reds ready for 'pain'
May 7, 2002

Queensland five-eighth Elton Flatley is hoping that Australia's win over New Zealand at Carisbrook last year will inspire the Reds to victory over the Highlanders in their Super 12 clash this weekend.

The Reds have never won at the ground, a record Flatley hopes will change on Saturday. A win will secure a semi-final spot for the Reds while Otago is also in the running for a spot in the final four.

Flatley is confident that Queensland can break their duck at the "House of pain".

"There was a lot of Queenslanders in that Wallaby team last year that won down there against New Zealand at Carisbrook," he said.

"(The Highlanders) are definitely not unbeatable down there. They've lost their key playmaker Tony Brown so we're going down there pretty confident."

Flatley contributed 16 points in last Sunday's 31-24 home win over New South Wales and his goalkicking could be a bonus for the Reds with Otago's Brown absent. The Reds have named an unchanged lineup for the match.

The Reds could go into Saturday's match already secure in the top-four if the Blues beat the ACT Brumbies, without either side gaining a bonus point in Canberra on Friday night.

Reds: Chris Latham, Ben Tune, Daniel Herbert (c), Steve Kefu/Junior Pelesasa, Wendell Sailor, Elton Flatley, Jacob Rauluni, John Roe, David Croft, Matt Cockbain, Mark Connors, Nathan Sharpe, Fletcher Dyson, Tom Murphy, Nick Stiles. Reserves: Sean Hardman, Glenn Panoho, Mike Mitchell, Daniel Heenan, Junior Pelesasa/Richard Graham, Andrew Scotney, Sam Cordingley.
