The 2003 Rugby World Cup will be officially launched at the Sydney Opera House on May 20, the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) said on Tuesday.

More than 300 people, including rugby union officials from the 16 competing nations and sponsor representatives, are expected to attend the function hosted by International Rugby Board (IRB) chairman Vernon Pugh and ARU managing director John O'Neill.

The Cup was initially scheduled to be launched on March 12, but a wrangle between New Zealand and Australia over the hosting of the event forced its postponement. The IRB confirmed Australia as the sole host of the 48-match tournament last month.
