Bartholomeusz signs new Brumbies deal
June 12, 2002

The ACT Brumbies have signed Australia A and Commonwealth Games winger/fullback Mark Bartholomeusz on a new two year deal.

Bartholomeusz started at fullback or wing in every Super 12 match this season, playing his 50th cap against the Waratahs in the semi final at Aussie Stadium and ran in a total of five tries.

Coach David Nucifora says is delighted he is staying.

"There was a chance that Barty could head overseas so we`re really happy that he`s decided to stay. He plays the game at a consistently high level, he`s reliable and he`s one of the leaders in our team. We value him highly".

"To have a player of his skill and experience available for the next two seasons provides the team with a number of options. He adapted well to playing both wing and fullback this season and with more than 50 games in the Super 12 he`s got the sort of experience that rubs off on other players".

Bartholomeusz is equally happy to be re-signing with the Brumbies where he says he still has a lot to achieve both individually and as a team.

"There are still a number of things I want to achieve in rugby personally, and also with the Brumbies," said Bartholomeusz

"The Brumbies are always striving for continual improvement, and that`s something that I`m very aware of with my own game."

Mark Bartholomeusz made his Super 12 debut for the Brumbies against the Sharks in 1998. He scored his first Super 12 try for the Brumbies in 1999 against the Bulls in Canberra.

He is one of only twelve players to have played 50 Super 12 matches for the Brumbies.
