Wallabies urged to chase further glory

Australian cricket coach John Buchanan spoke to the Wallabies in Coffs Harbour on Friday, and Justin Harrison was an impressed listener.

Buchanan addressed the players after watching them train ahead of next Saturday's Tri Nations opener against the All Blacks, and told of how the likes of Steve and Mark Waugh and Glenn McGrath continue to chase success even after achieving so much.

"He was talking about how they've managed to be in the side for a number of years in succession and the most important point that he made was that they're always continuing to strive for improvement and adding new things to their game," said Harrison.

"He was talking about batsmen adding new shots to their game and things like that."

Harrison also drew parallels between Waugh's omission from the one-day team and continually stated desire to regain his place in the side, to the challenge facing Australia in trying to retain its title as world champions.

"You play one game and teams study it so you've got to come up with something new for the next game," Harrison said.

Wallaby coach Eddie Jones has spoken in recent weeks about the need for his players to become multi-skilled and versatile, and Harrison says he is working towards becoming one of those sort of players.

"Particularly in international rugby for the tight five you need to be more and more multi-skilled in terms of your ability to read and react to situations and also make your own opportunities," he said.

"Part of that is developing skill levels to be able to pass balls in the backline, read situations and call appropriate moves and not only show up at scrums and lineouts and go through the motions."
