ARU ready to re-build bridges with Kiwis
July 24, 2002

The Australian Rugby Union has signalled their willingness to re-build their bridges with New Zealand following the publication of the Eichelbaum report.

The report into why the New Zealand Rugby Football Union lost its co-host status for next year's World Cup primarily found that the NZRFU Board was accountable for the loss and the ARU feel that has vindicating them of any 'conspiracy' ideas.

ARU Managing Director John O'Neill says both Unions have already begun the bridge building process.

"We are already down that track. There have been important lessons learned and the NZRFU will obviously look closely at the report's findings as it sets its course ahead."

"Clearly a priority will be restoring relations with ourselves and the International Rugby Board (IRB). Whether the changes to their administrative and Board leaderships will achieve that remains to be seen."

Mr O'Neill says it is important that both Unions now move forward after a difficult period and that contests between Australia and New Zealand are confined to the rugby paddock.
