ARU look to lure Eagles
October 2, 2002

The Australian Rugby Union are hoping to lure the USA Eagles into taking part in their inaugural development competition next year.

World Cup qualifier Japan are also set to compete in the tournament that is the ARU's plan B after the failure to gain a fourth team in an expanded Super 12 series.

The competition will include B teams from NSW, Queensland and the ACT to develop Australia's talent at the provincial level.

The ARU is still in talks with USA Rugby about the involvement of the Eagles, who are hoping to qualify for the World Cup in Australia next year through the repechage.

Former Wallaby coach Rod Macqueen is liaising with USA Rugby and will help to set up the Eagles in Australia if they participate.
